Takam

Singapore is a such a great place to go on a food trip. With a huge array of cuisines available, it’s easy to get lost in this gastronomic jungle. In every mall corner or hawkers center, international restaurants have set shop and offer food at reasonable prices. But after gorging myself with Malay, Chinese, and Indian staples, I usually find myself craving for Filipino dishes. Iba pa rin ang pagkaing Pinoy.

The longer you stay in Singapore, the quicker the craving for roti prata, Chinese chicken wings, chicken rice, nasi biryani, and Indian curry disappears. It is soon replaced by the yearning for Filipino favorites like nilaga, sinigang, sisig and the like. Don’t get me wrong, you can get all these in Singapore. A number of turo-turos and Filipino restaurants can be found in this Southeast Asian melting pot, but still, nothing comes close to having real authentic meals from your own home country.

Not having Filipino food for some time made me realize even more that our food is really really good. Back in the States, my cousins yearned to go home just so they can eat “real” Pinoy food. It just tastes better, they say. Disregarding the Filipino food withdrawal symptoms, I soon thought of a place where I could take my cousins, Ate and Carlos - Kanin Club.
